Nothing to write home about, say Telangana TDP leaders

June 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:57 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Telangana Telugu Desam leaders have expressed disappointment over the one-year rule of TRS Government and maintained that people’s hopes have been dashed as none of the election promises has been fulfilled.

Giving his reaction, senior TDP leader Ravula Chandrasekhara Reddy said there is no social justice and the members belonging to Scheduled Castes and women are not included in the Cabinet. “That is the biggest mistake committed by TRS,” he said and accused TRS leadership of moving towards feudalism.

Mr. Reddy and TDP floor leader in Telangana Assembly, Errabelli Dayakar Rao charged the government with neglecting the interests of farmers and said 1,000 farmers had committed suicide in the past one year. Pointing out that neighbouring Andhra Pradesh government is paying an ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakh to the kin of each farmer who ended his life, they wanted the TRS government to increase the amount from Rs.1.5 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh.

Mr. Rao also accused the TRS leadership of ignoring the families of Telangana martyrs, while inducting “betrayers” of Telangana cause into the Cabinet. He said the elections to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation were being postponed deliberately and claimed that the ruling party would face defeat whenever they are held.

Referring to various promises, Mr. Chandrasekhara Reddy said the housing scheme for poor is yet to take off and not a single 2BHK house is constructed. He said pending irrigation projects were yet to be completed. He also questioned the rationale behind the proposal of government to sell its lands for raising Rs.13,000 crore when Telangana has surplus budget. Where is the need to mobilise up to Rs.24,000 crore through borrowings, he asked. Alleging that contracts under ‘Mission Kakatiya’ were being given only to TRS workers, he said.
