No pink polling booths: Congress tells ECI

Pink colour on polling booths in Telangana should not be allowed as the ruling party’s colour may influence the voters, the Congress said while objecting to the proposal of Election Commission of India (ECI) to set up pink coloured polling booth for women for the Assembly elections on December 7.

In a statement here Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) treasurer Gudur Narayana Reddy said the ECI had set up pink polling booths for women with completely female staff during Karnataka Assembly elections. But the Election Commission should not allow this in Telangana as the official colour of ruling TRS party is pink. He said it was the responsibility of the ECI to ensure that any symbol, signs, colour or text that might influence the voters should not be allowed. He reminded that the TRS uses pink colour for its flags, banners and entire campaign material. Instead of pink the ECI can use any other colour as the Congress would support separate booths for women to draw them towards polling booths.

BJP is dreaming

Mr. Reddy ridiculed the claims of BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav of BJP forming the next government in Telangana State. He said first BJP has no moral right to seek votes as its government at the Centre has not fulfilled any promises made to Telangana in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.

Where is the Railway Coach Factory at Kazipet, Steel Plant at Bayyaram, Tribal University, IIM and institutions promised in the Act, he asked. Moreover, it did not provide funds for the ITIR region which could have generated over 50 lakh jobs. “Modi government is equally responsible for suicide by over 4500 farmers in Telangana,” he said.
