No cashless EHS support, hospital tells patients

Reimbursement to hospitals will be done soon, says official

Patients undergoing cashless dialysis at a corporate hospital in the city through the State’s Employees Health Scheme, are being denied continued treatment, allegedly due to delay in reimbursement from government.

Relatives of the patients, on condition of anonymity, spoke to The Hindu to inform that the hospital, a popular healthcare group with multiple hospitals across the city, informed them about discontinuation of cashless EHS support.

“We were told that for the next monthly cycle of dialysis, cashless treatment cannot be availed under EHS. We have to choose between availing treatment at the hospital’s listed cost or shift to another hospital,” said one person whose mother-in-law availed dialysis for a year.

Another individual, whose mother has been availing dialysis at the hospital for a year-and-a-half, said they conveyed the problem to the hospital management and the EHS administration.

“Every month we have to take an approval letter from EHS administration, which is handed over to the hospital for cashless dialysis. About 10 days ago, we were told by hospital staff that the government had delayed reimbursement due to it, for patients it had treated in the past,” he said. When contacted, the hospital administration denied it stopped any service. A senior official in the EHS administration of the government said reimbursement to hospitals was delayed by about a week in the recent past, but assured it would soon be addressed. Over 200 hospitals are empanelled for the scheme.

Delay in reimbursement to hospitals under government schemes, mainly Aarogyasri, has resulted in stand-offs between government and hospitals in the past.

According to Telangana Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes, an association of private healthcare establishments, Aarogyasri dues, pending since last June, are to be paid by the government.
