Reacting to a report in these columns highlighting the plight of patients due to lack of CT scan facility at Nizams Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), authorities on Friday announced that they would be procuring two CT scan machines.
Authorities said that a 16-slice basic CT scan will be available to patients in another two months while an advanced scanning machine of 128 slice, for more accurate results, will be procured within four months, said Medical Superintendant, NIMS, Dr. Nimma Satyanarayana, while interacting with press persons here on Friday.
Hospital authorities said that they have decided to do away with the practice of referring patients needing CT scans to nearby private diagnostic centres. “From Monday till the new CT scan machines are available, we will refer patients to Niloufer Hospital, Gandhi Hospital and MNJ Cancer Hospital,” said Head of Radiology, NIMS, Dr. S. Rammurthy.
“The present CT scan at NIMS is 13 years old and has become obsolete. While an order has been placed for the basic CT scan, the institute already has clearance to procure the advanced machine,” Dr. Rammurthy added.
The hospital superintendant said the new Trauma and Emergency complex, with a total of 500 beds, will be functional soon.
“The hospital has faced severe neglect in the last seven years and we want to undo these problems. We want to provide state-of-the-art facilities to patients,” Dr. Satyanarayana said.
