The Cyberabad police on Friday arrested a Nigerian, Ikechukuwu Okoro, from Mumbai in a case of cheating a Hyderabadi of ₹1.42 lakh in the guise of offering him a business deal.

According to the complainant, Syed Zafar Ahmed, a woman named Angelina Francis contacted him through WhatsApp and offered him a business deal of making money by supplying some nuts to an England-based pharmaceutical company.

At her instance, he purchased a packet of nuts for ₹1.42 lakh from the supplier in Meghalaya online. The woman asked him to hand over the packet to the pharmaceutical company representatives coming from England to India.

On their arrival in India, they spoke with him over phone and directed him to buy 20 such packets but Ahmed didn’t agree to the proposal. He demanded that they return his money. He realised he was taken for a ride as the ‘representatives’ stopped responding to his phone calls.

Based on his complaint, Cyberabad Cyber Crime sleuths analysed the bank transactions and found that one of the suspects was operating from Mumbai and arrested the Nigerian.

He was brought to Hyderabad and being remanded in judicial custody.
