‘Every gram panchayat will receive a fund of at least ₹5 lakh a year’

Housing Minister A. Indrakaran Reddy on Wednesday lauded the new Panchayat Raj Act brought in by the State government for being progressive. He said gram panchayats will be funded directly under the new Act which will go a long way in developing villages.

The Minister said every gram panchayat will receive a fund of at least ₹5 lakh every year. Those local bodies which unanimously elect sarpanches will get ₹10 lakh per year as funds, he added.

Talking about panchayats and their strengths, Mr. Reddy said India will be strong only if its villages were strong economically.

The new PR Act envisages an all-round development of villages so that they become economically strong, he said. On the agriculture front, the Minister praised the State government for helping farmers in every which way.
