What is the difference between a daily serial and a mega serial? That was the question that the jury for Nandi TV Awards raised while announcing the list of awardees last week.

They did have a point for channels at present have different serial runs, some of which run from Monday to Friday, some once a week and few others making it to the telly twice a week.

In these, what should be considered as a mega serial by the jury, they asked.

At the same time, the jury also felt the need for instituting few more categories for Nandi Television Awards and their suggestion included categories of best character actor and actress, choreography and also animation.

New serial

For the soap crazy Telugu television viewers, as one popular serial comes to a draw this week on Gemini TV, another replaced it. Coming from Balaji Telefilms, ‘Kannavaari Kalalu' is the new serial that will replace the super hit soap ‘Kothabangaram' on the channel this week.

The new serial unveiled itself on Monday with a storyline that is based in the city and comes packed with an array of cast that include seasoned and fresh talent. Encompassing two generations and the friendship that thrives between them, it looks at catching the attention of viewers with oodles of sentiments, family drama and the Balaji Telefilms hallmark, twists in the narration.

The actors, from the small and big screen, who would keep the serial moving include Vamsee, Swathi, Subhalekha Sudhakar, Fathima Babu, Krishna Kowshik, Jyoti Reddy, Priya and ‘Hyderabad Blues' fame Rajasri Nair.
