Nagara Panchayat Commissioner, assistant held

The ACB officials on Wednesday arrested Thrilleshwar Rao, Commissioner of Badangipet Nagara Panchayat, and his senior assistant Naresh for allegedly receiving Rs. 72,000 bribe from a person.

Naresh, who received the bribe, tested positive when subjected to a chemical examination, said M. Prabhakar, ACB DSP, Hyderabad range. The complainant, Srinivas Reddy, civil contractor approached the Commissioner for release of Rs. 23.77 lakh relating to some works. “Even as other procedures were complied with, the Commissioner and his assistant sought two per cent and one per cent cuts respectively in the amount to be released,” the DSP said. As per their demand, the contractor reached their office carrying Rs. 72,000. “When our team raided the office, the Commissioner was signing the papers related to release of money,” Mr. Prabhakar said.
