Nagam rubbishes Minister’s claim

January 14, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - Hyderabad:

BJP national executive member Nagam Janardhan Reddy rubbished Energy Minister C. Laxma Reddy’s claim that dewatering works at the third lift of the Kalwakurthy irrigation project had commenced on January 5. He visited the site only on Monday and found no works in progress. “Like the Chief Minister, his Ministers too are indulging in lies and false claims,” Dr. Reddy said.

Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, he said he was firm on going on strike if the government did not begin the works by January 17. He invited other opposition parties to join him in the strike as the issue was of development. The Mahabubnagar district was reeling under a severe drought, but the government was yet to declare the drought mandals.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had promised to provide water to irrigate 6 lakh acres in Mahabubnagar district. But he was not aware of the progress of various projects. Gammon India had abandoned work of the third lift and given it on sub-contract to Deepika Construction. The government’s priority should be completion of the on going projects and not Kakatiya Mission. “Get your priorities right,” Dr. Reddy told the Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao.

To a question, he said as a Minister he had laid roads, constructed school buildings and upgraded power supply in Mahabubnagar district.

Says he found no work in progress at the third lift of the Kalwakurthy project as claimed by Energy Minister C. Laxma Reddy
