Packaged food products company MTR Foods as part of a strategy to focus on Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, has created a separate business unit for the two States and plans to add more products keeping the local demand in mind.
“We have put together a strategy to focus on the two States, in terms of launch of new products as well as investments and strategic initiatives. A separate business unit has already been set up which will help sharpen our focus,” CEO Sanjay Sharma said here on Wednesday.
Speaking at the launch of Masala Karam, a versatile masala for use in everyday cooking, and a quick-to-cook Seviyan Upma for breakfast, he said that there is considerable scope to increase the contribution of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to the total sales from the existing around 20%. The contribution of the two States is the second highest to MTR sales from the country, he said, adding the distribution footprint was also being increased.
MTR total sales is around ₹ 900 crore and the company expected it to cross ₹ 1,000 crore this year.
Besides for the Telugu States, the company has formed another business unit that focuses on Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala markets. A third business unit is devoted to the rest of the country – where the company has decided to focus on 50 major cities.
On the new products that he and Chief Marketing Officer Sunay Bhasin unveiled, he said the Masala Karam and Seviyan Upma were answers to the need-gap identified in the two States. The company expects around ₹150 crore from the two products.
