Union Minister pays tribute to Telangana martyrs at poll meet

Addressing a packed meeting of party workers, Union Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj reeled out statistics about the development over the past five years and asked the audience to vote for N. Ramachandra Rao, the BJP candidate from Malkajgiri constituency in the city on Friday evening.

Ms Swaraj touched a chord with the audience when she paid tributes to the martyrs of the Telangana movement.

“When students in Telangana were committing suicide for separate State, I had appealed to them to live and fight for the cause. And today, Telangana is a reality,” she said.

“In 2008 when terrorists struck Mumbai and killed over 100 people, the then government lost an opportunity to corner Pakistan. They could have used the world outrage to teach Pakistan a lesson. But it didn’t happen. But when terrorists attacked our soldiers, Mr Modi gave the Indian army full freedom to do whatever was necessary,” said Ms. Swaraj who added that India’s stature has gone up on world stage.

“When 5,000 of our people were struck in Yemen during the war, Mr. Modi could lobby with the countries fighting the war to have a 2-hour truce. And we could evacuate 5,000 of our own people as well as 2,000 others from different countries. This action was possible because of the goodwill India has,” said Ms. Swaraj who narrated how Pakistan’s chair was empty at the OIC meeting on March 1.

“The country has seen unprecedented development over the past five years. Only 40% of Indians had access to toilets. Now, the number has gone up to 98%. In medical field, in education sector, in social sector, Mr Modi has created a mark,” said Ms. Swaraj who asked the audience to vote for N. Ramchander Rao so that the development work will continue.
