May 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Irrigation and Marketing Minister T. Harish Rao has directed authorities supervising the Mission Kakatiya programme to complete restoration and repair of minor irrigation tanks before the onset of monsoon, even if it requires working with the help of floodlights at night to beat the sun.

At a video conference meeting to review the functioning of the two departments, the Minister asked the District Collectors to make the payments of Mission Kakatiya works only online by uploading the bills for completed works.

He told officials to complete the quality control inspections over the next 10 days and get necessary certification.

He suggested that officials take up works only if they were confident of completing it before the onset of the monsoon or ground the works next season.

The Minister told the officials that the Irrigation Department had earned a good name as NITI Aayog and the Governor had complimented their work. He directed the Collectors to send the proposals for phase-two of the Repair, Renovation and Restoration (RRR) programme.

On the Marketing Department works, the Minster told the Collectors to identify the lands required for construction of the new godowns on war-footing. He stated that Adilabad was ahead of other districts by identifying 38 places and giving advance possession of land at 31 places.

He, however, expressed disappointment over the poor progress made by Mahabubnagar district as the officials there had not given possession of even least one site. Stating that the construction of godowns was taken up with Rs. 1,034 crore NABARD funds,

Mr. Harish Rao said the mandals where there was storage facility would be given priority in the construction of new godowns, provided at least five acres land was given to the agriculture market committee concerned.

The officials were also told to identify places for construction of Rythu Bazaars in every Revenue Divisional headquarters in the State.

Adilabad district has made maximum progress while Mahabubnagar is lagging behind
