A seven-year-old girl from Hyderabad, who went missing for more than two years, was traced in Madhya Pradesh through DARPAN, a facial recognition application by Telangana police.

“The girl was found after 26 months in Madhya Pradesh. A missing case was registered in Bahadurpura police station and is under investigation with Crime Investigation Department (CID), Women protection cell,” said Additional DGP (CID) Govind Singh.

The girl was traced at Ebenezer Education Society, an NGO of Shapur of Betul district in MP. He said that this was the 18th case of missing children being reunited with their families with the help of facial recognition tool. “This is an example of how Artificial Intelligence can be used to make things, which were inconceivable till recently, possible,” Mr. Singh added.
