Minister’s post is not alms, says Eatala

Ministerial berth is not like alms you get through begging, Minister for Health Eatala Rajender said on Thursday.

“ I didn’t seek the Minister post under the BC quota as I belong to the backward class,” an emotional minister said at a meeting organised to welcome the Congress leaders into TRS fold in Huzurabad town. Reacting to reports in a section of the media, he said: “I don’t think it is necessary for me to respond to such false and baseless allegations”. “I did not join the party in the middle. I had participated in the statehood movement along with several lakhs of people. We achieved statehood through persistent struggle for the welfare of Telangana people. We are pink flag-bearers and not beggars,” he said.

Stating that political power is a transitory phenomenon, the minister said that ultimately only truth will prevail. He said it is not the leaders who make history, but the people. He said robbers and cheats may be able to hoodwink people for sometime, but cannot cheat the judicial system forever.

Mr Rajender said he would quit politics if anyone could prove that he had collected at least ₹5,000 from anyone in his 15 years of political life. He said that he always helped people who approached him.

However, later in the evening, Mr. Rajender said his comments were distorted by certain news channels and social media posts. “This is not right”.

He issued a statement saying that he was a soldier of the pink brigade (TRS colour) from the day he joined the party till date and that Mr Chandrasekhar Rao was their leader. The pink flag will undoubtedly fly high in the coming municipal elections.

Mr. Rajender accused that certain people inimical to TRS and not able to stomach his popularity were carrying out a slander campaign against him in newspapers and social media. They tried to project him as a representative of a caste who was greedy for money. It was in this context that he spoke his mind at Huzurabad with an advice that they stop such baseless reports.

He had told the meeting that he was the proud owner of a poultry farm with ten lakh chicks when he joined the party. Within a few years, KCR nominated him as the TRS candidate to contest Assembly elections from Kamalapur. Mr. Rao also ensured that he won the election.

He did not enter politics to make a fast buck. A wrong twist was given by channels and social media to the speech that he gave at Huzurabad in response to a leader’s request to clarify his stand on the report against him in a newspaper. He did not yield to pressure from then Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to join the Congress. He owed his victory as MLA six times to the separate Telangana movement. The campaign against him should stop. The social media should observe restraint, Mr.Rajender said.
