The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen announced it first list of candidates and will fight it out from seven seats in the upcoming Assembly elections.

All MLAs before the dissolution of the Telangana State Legislative Assembly – Akbaruddin Owaisi, general secretary Ahmed Pasha Qadri, Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala, Kausar Mohiuddin, Mumtaz Khan, Moazzam Khan and Jaffer Hussain Meraj, who won the 2014 polls polls have been fielded.

Interestingly, the candidature of Mumtaz Khan, a five-time legislator who represented Yakutpura, has put all speculation of him not being given a ticket to rest.

“It was being said that Mumtaz Khan would not be given a ticket this time. This was because some believed he served as legislator for several terms. But the truth is that he is a powerful candidate,” a source said.

Change of constituency

But, a noticeable change this time is that Mr. Khan will no longer contest the elections from his bastion of Yakutpura as he has been fielded from Charminar. In turn, former Charminar legislator Ahmed Pasha Qadri has been fielded from Yakutpura.

“Ahmed Pasha Qadri served as a corporator from Dabeerpura, which is a part of the Yakutpura constituency, in the ’80s.

This means that he is no stranger to the area,” the source said.

Both Yakutpura and Charminar are considered safe seats.

Akbaruddin Owaisi will contest from Chandrayangutta, a constituency where he enjoys a vast following. Mr. Balala has been fielded from the Malakpet constituency. Kausar Mohiuddin will fight it out from Karwan and Jaffer Hussain Meraj has been fielded from Nampally.
