Metropolitan Sessions Judge alone to hear Satyam cases

May 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:57 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Justice T. Sunil Choudary of the Hyderabad High Court on Thursday declared that the appeals filed by convicted persons in Satyam Computers Services Limited scam are to be heard by the Metropolitan Sessions Judge (MSJ) of Hyderabad only. With this verdict, the appeals will be relegated to the Metropolitan Sessions Judge of Hyderabad.

It may be recalled that XXI additional chief metropolitan magistrate of (special CBI court) Hyderabad convicted B. Ramalinga Raju and nine others. This court was designated as sessions court to try offences against the accused in the Satyam fraud under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. They filed appeals before the Metropolitan Sessions Judge of Hyderabad, challenging the conviction. The Sessions judge felt that the conviction was imposed by a designated court and the appeals should to be heard by the High Court only. The registry of High Court raised an objection. Justice Sunil Choudary said the registry’s objections were justified.
