The latest surgical procedures and the best practices in the field of knee joints were shared and discussed by over 200 surgeons from across the country at the Eighth SISA Live Surgery-2015 Advanced Knee Congress. The meet also focused on newer surgical techniques like High Tibial Realignment Osteotomy to correct mechanical axis, single stage cartilage repair using bone marrow stem cells, knee cushion meniscus repair, multiple ligament injury reconstructions besides others. Anant Joshi, well-known sports surgeon from Mumbai and Chief Consultant of BCCI, said that joint replacement is appropriate for those above 65 years of age and not for youngsters. Mr. Joshi said that when faced with initial symptoms of knee problems, one should shift to body-friendly activities which are less stressful. Cartilage cell implantation or cell therapy provides a new ray of hope for patients suffering from knee-related issues, said K. Raghuveer Reddy, organising secretary of the Congress.
