MapmyIndia to navigate 2-wheelers

Location technology provider plans to be an alternative to Google maps

Location technology provider MapmyIndia is all set to unveil a navigation solution for two-wheelers.

The two-wheeler manufacturer with whom the company is working would be announcing the details in a month or two, said Rakesh Verma, co-founder and managing director of CE Info Systems, the company behind MapmyIndia.

Noting that many cars come factory fitted with MapmyIndia navigation software and maps, he said automotive industry was one of the focus sectors for the company.

While catering to both private and public sectors industrial customers would remain the mainstay, the company was also considering a product that would provide an alternative to Google Maps for consumers.

“Lot of requests have been pouring in about why we have left that space,” he said, adding the company would come with the product in a couple of months.

A leader in digital map data, APIs, GPS navigation, telematics, location based SaaS and GIS solutions, the company revenues are between the ₹150 and ₹200 crore range.

Steady profits

In recent years, its turnover and profits have been growing at a rate of 30%, said Mr. Verma.

Mr. Verma, who along with executive director Shivalik Prasad, was interacting with the press here on Wednesday, said that the company has launched MapmyIndia Map Engine, which was a solution designed to geo-enable applications and solutions.

The product is powered with MapmyIndia's map data content in the form of map tiles and ready-to-use geospatial functionalities to integrate with any platform capable of consuming APIs, Mr. Verma added.
