A computer instructor, who posted obscene photographs of his former wife on matrimonial websites and sent offensive emails to her friends and relatives, was jailed for one year by a local court here. The thirty-year-old man was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs.12,000.

The convicted person, Sanaulla Faisal, a resident of Khilwat, divorced his wife in 2003, but nursed a grouse against her. He began sending obscene photos and offensive emails to her relatives and friends.

Cyber Crime Police registered a case under Sections 67 of IT Act-2000, and Sections 507 and 506 of IPC in 2004 following a complaint lodged by her father.

The then DSP, C. Jayaram Reddy, raided Faisal's house and seized the computer which was used in the offence. Forensic experts later established that the computer was indeed used to send the offensive and obscene mails.

“We confirmed that he uploaded the images taken with his camera into the computer and sent it to the woman's family and uploaded it on websites,” said Cyber Crime Additional Superintendent of Police, U. Ram Mohan. CID Public Prosecutor, K. Ajay Kumar, said that the case was argued effectively with the technical evidence given by the APFSL.
