In a shocking incident, a 52-year-old widow was allegedly beaten to death by her younger son G. Vijay on Wednesday morning over a property dispute in Dasaram Basti huts near BK Guda under SR Nagar police station limits.

The woman was identified as G. Bhagyamma, a resident of Guntakal in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh. The incident took place around 8.30 a.m.

According to police, Bhagyamma’s husband, a retired railway employee, passed away a few weeks ago. Soon after, their three sons started forcing her to divide the family property. Bhagyamma did not yield to their demands and visited her cousin Veeramma’s house here a week ago.

Irate over her behaviour, Vijay on Wednesday came to the city from Guntakal and started an argument with her. Soon, the argument turned violent and he started physically assaulting his mother. Later, Vijay hit her with a pestle on her head. “As a result, she succumbed to the head injury,” said G. Rajender Goud, Sub-Inspector, SR Nagar, adding that after confirming that she is dead, he fled from the scene. Mr. Goud said that a search is on to nab the suspect and the body was shifted to Gandhi Hospital morgue for autopsy.
