Man held for rape and murder of daughter

May 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The Ranga Reddy district police on Sunday arrested Meghavath Kamal (45) for rape and murder of his teenaged daughter reported three days ago at Bantawaram in Vikarabad.

The accused person sexually assaulted the girl at a secluded place in Barwad Gate area enroute to Vikarabad.

Fearing that the girl would reveal the identity and the incident, Kamal strangulated the teenager with a scarf.

He later hit her with a boulder on head to ensure she died, said Ranga Reddy Superintendent of Police M. Srinivas at a press conference. To avoid getting caught the man concocted a kidnap story.

Explaining the events that unfolded on the fateful day, Mr. Srinivas said that on Thursday, Kamal came to Chandanagar area in the city and took his daughter from his relative’s place. They left for Vikarabad by a train. On reaching Vikarabad, he started on a moped along with the girl for his village.

“On the way Kamal stopped the vehicle at Barwad Gate, took the teenager to a secluded place and sexually violated and killed her,” the official said. Soon after, he went to his house and explained to his relatives that some unknown persons had kidnapped the girl.

The man along with his wife and relatives approached the police late in the night and told that some persons kidnapped and took his daughter in an auto rickshaw after attacking him. The body of the girl was found the next morning at Bantawaram.

The police took into custody several suspects but could not get any clues. However, investigators grew suspicious after Kamal gave different versions about the incident. On interrogation, the man admitted to the crime. “Despite his daughter getting kidnapped, Kamal went home, took bath, changed clothes and came to the police station to file a report. This point also aroused suspicion,” Mr. Srinivas said.
