A man in his mid-30s, from Kurnool district’s Adoni, was picked up by Marredpally police on Tuesday for allegedly making threat calls to Major Industries Minister J. Geetha Reddy.

Police registered a case after relatives of the Minister approached the police, stating that a person rang up Ms. Reddy on her mobile phone, claiming to be the son of Minister for Minor Irrigation T.G. Venkatesh.

“When the Minister’s personal assistant picked up call, he claimed he was Mr. Venkatesh’s son and sought a job,” police said.

Upon verification, Ms. Reddy came to know that it was the act of a prankster.

Police registered cases under Section 419 (impersonation) and Section 507 (criminal intimidation by anonymous communication) of the IPC. Police traced the calls to a man later identified as Adoni resident Gurunatha Reddy.

Marredpally police learnt that the suspect had made similar calls to some police and government officials in the district. “These charges are being verified,” the police said.
