SC and ST Welfare department Minister Koppula Easwar to inaugurate the 5th edition of the summer samurai camps of the Gurukulams schools in Hyderabad.

The Social Welfare department has announced summer samurai camps for students of social welfare and tribal welfare residential schools.

Around 50,000 students are expected to participate in 88 camps being organised this summer.

Special camps to hone skills of the students from underprivileged classes were started in 2014 with 10 camps organised for 1,000 students.

The initiative received enthusiastic response with 68 camps involving 45,000 students being organised in 2018.

Making the announcement, Social Welfare Minister Koppula Eshwar said the camps are being organised on the premises of welfare hostels as well as stadiums at Gachibowli, Saroornagar and Hakimpet.

The camps, a brainchild of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, envisages coaching in IIT, NEET and other competitive exams.

In addition, the students would be trained in preparation of mobile apps, drones, multimedia, life career coding, martial arts, water sports and horse riding.

The Minister said the camps being conducted for the past five years has yielded good results in that several students who attended them took part in the national and international events held in disciplines like water sports and yoga. Another feature of these camps is the awareness programme that would be conducted for parents.

The camps will be organised under the supervision of experts and experienced institutions and the government would give wide publicity to encourage more students to participate in those, he added.
