Citizens travelling on the Kukatpally-Miyapur road were in for a pleasant surprise on Thursday afternoon when L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad (L&TMRH), the concessionaire building the metro project, conducted a maiden trial run from Miyapur depot to Kukatpally Housing Board (KPHB), a 4.4 km stretch.
The route comes under the Corridor One route of Miyapur to L.B.Nagar. Although the 10 overhead stations of the second construction stage of Miyapur-S.R. Nagar are almost ready, the electrical inspector general of the metro rail has given permission for the authorities concerned for running the trial run for up to four stations to begin with rather then a straight stretch of 10 km, metro officials said.
“It is another important milestone for Hyderabad Metro Rail Project and for Stage 2 (Miyapur – S R Nagar). This is a testimony for bringing world-class metro rail facility to Hyderabad and very soon Hyderabadis will enjoy riding their own metro,” said L&TMRH chief executive & managing director V.B. Gadgil.
Accompanied by project director M.P. Naidu, he inaugurated the test run and also inspected the first test ride which cruised at about 30 kmph. Miyapur depot is the second largest depot for the metro rail project spread across 100 acres after the Nagole depot and L&TMRH has nearly completed all the works inside.
There are around 14 three-coach trains sourced from Hyundai Rotem (South Korea) currently stationed in the depot and one among them was run on Thursday. The Uppal depot too has 14 three-coach trains, which are taking part in trial runs between Nagole and Mettuguda.
It falls under Corridor Three of Nagole to Shilparamam-Raidurg. Corridor Two is between Jubilee Bus Station and Falaknuma.
