GST department initiates move to recover service tax dues from the actor

The bank accounts of Tollywood actor Ghattamaneni Mahesh Babu were attached by the Goods and Services Tax Department to recover service tax dues from him.

According to a press release issued by the Hyderabad GST Commissionerate, Mr. Mahesh Babu has not paid the service tax during 2007-08 for the taxable services he rendered as brand ambassador, appearance money and advertising for promotion of products among others.

The total tax due from him was ₹ 18.5 lakh. On Thursday the GST department has attached his bank accounts in Axis Bank and ICICI Bank for an amount of ₹ 73.5 lakhs which includes tax, interest and penalty.

The department reportedly recovered about ₹ 42 lakh from Axis Bank, while ICICI bank will pay the amount on Friday.
