An inter-state coordination meeting between Telangana and Maharashtra forest officials on Wednesday, facilitated by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), resolved to hold meetings at regular intervals for better monitoring of the movement of big cats.
The meeting was aimed at better inter-state coordination at ground level for efficient management of Tadoba-Andhari-Kawal Tiger landscape. Three important corridors have been identified in the landscape, respectively — Thipeshwar-Kawal, Tadoba-Kawal and Indravathi-Kawal tiger reserves.
Surplus tiger population from the three regions is spilling over to Kawal, and it is essential to take guidance from the Maharashtra Forest department for better management of the reserve, officials from Kawal said.
It has been decided to monitor tiger movement in coordinated manner, and exchange information and technology. The participants also shared recent incidents involving human-animal conflict, and best practices for resolution. The meeting was convened under the chairmanship of Additional Director General of Project Tiger and member secretary of NTCA Anup Kumar Nayak and was attended by PCCF (Wildlife) Munindra representing Telangana and his counterpart from Maharashtra, Nitin Kakodkar.
Field Directors of Kawal, Pench and Tadoba tiger reserves, deputy inspector generals and assistant inspector generals of NTCA, DFOs, FDOs, ACFs and range officers of both states attended the meeting, a statement from the department said.
