Now, the residents of Karimnagar and other parts of the district have a reason to rejoice.
They can visit the picturesque shores of LMD reservoir, Ujawala Park and Deer Park and not face any inconvenience caused by miscreants, that was a commonplace earlier.
Following several incidents of miscreants causing trouble to visitors at the tourist spots on the outskirts of Karimnagar and open consumption of liquor and destruction of public properties, the Karimnagar Commissionerate has decided to deploy Lake Police from October 10 for round-the-clock surveillance.
The Lake Police would function on the lines of Hyderabad Tank Bund police. They would ensure the safety and security of the visitors at the LMD reservoir and other tourist places.
Two outposts on either side of the dam shore would be opened. The Lake Police would be equipped with sophisticated wireless sets, high-range LED torch lights, powerful night-vision binoculars, two motorcycles, one interceptor vehicle, a speed boat to conduct surveillance in the water etc. Besides, a drone camera would also be used to ensure round-the-clock surveillance.
Karimnagar MP B. Vinod Kumar has released ₹5 lakh from his MPLADS for the Lake Police in the town. They would be supported by SHE teams and Quick Reaction Team (QRT) personnel while supervision would be provided through the interceptor vehicle signals received by the command control centre at the district headquarters.
Karimnagar local legislator Gangula Kamalakar has also promised to donate ₹1 crore for the installation of CCTV cameras at the dam and other locations for the safety of the visitors.
Commissioner of Police V.B. Kamalasan Reddy said the Lake Police was constituted following high incidence of harassment of visitors and extortions by anti-social elements on the outskirts of Karimnagar at LMD and two parks.
