Officials of the Legal Metrology Department raided four prominent malls in twin cities and booked cases for selling goods in violation of packaged commodity rules.
Four special teams constituted by the Additional DGP and Controller of Legal Metrology, S. Gopal Reddy, carried out raids at the malls at Abids, Ameepet, Kacheguda and Madhapur and found that the managements were selling packaged commodities such as dry fruits, cookies among others without adhering to norms.
Footwear worth over Rs. 20 lakh was seized from one shop, while a bakery was found to be charging more for fruit cakes. A majority of them were found to be selling goods without mentioning manufacturer details, date of packing, price, customer care number and other details.
In all, the department has registered 131 cases against the shopkeepers under relevant provisions of Legal Metrology Act 2009 and Packaged Commodity Rules 2011 and seized property worth over Rs.70 lakh from them, officials said.
