L.B. Nagar flyover opened for traffic

The new flyover at L.B. Nagar on Friday.

In a major relief to commuters travelling to and from L.B.Nagar and surrounding areas, the left hand side flyover at L.B.Nagar junction which had been under construction for more than a year was finally launched on Friday.

Apart from easing the regular traffic, the flyover also brings cheer to commuters facing travails due to the road space restrictions when the construction was on.

After completion, the launch was delayed as the GHMC authorities had to wait for Cabinet formation. On Friday, the structure was finally thrown open to public by Ministers Mohammed Mahmood Ali and Talasani Srinivas Yadav, among a host of officials including GHMC Commissioner M.Dana Kishore. Costing ₹42 crore, the flyover, 780 metres in length, and 12 metres in width, will allow free flow of traffic from the city towards Hayatnagar and beyond. It will provide 90% relief to the vehicle traffic, pegged at 8916 passenger car units (PCU) (with Metro Rail) back in 2015, and projected to be 21,990 PCU in 2034.

This is the third structure in the L.B.Nagar package of the SRDP works, after the flyover near Kamineni Hospital junction, and the Chintalkunta underpass.

Four flyovers and an underpass are planned to be constructed here as part of SRDP.

Six structures have taken shape as part of SRDP so far, including two flyovers and an underpass at Madhapur.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Mahmood Ali said traffic problems have increased after formation of Telangana as a separate State, as people from across the country are arriving here.

Observing that areas starting from Chaderghat up to Hayatnagar are experiencing severe traffic issues, he assured that the Road under Bridge (RUB) work too will begin soon at Malakpet, which will further ease vehicular movement.

Mr. Srinivas Yadav commended the TRS working president K.T.Rama Rao for SRDP, and said the works scheduled for L.B.Nagar area will ease up the traffic up to Chaderghat on one side, and up to Hayatnagar and Uppal on the other.

MP Ch.Malla Reddy, legislator D.Sudheer Reddy, and Mayor Bonthu Ram Mohan too were present on the occasion.
