A meeting of the State Cabinet on Saturday will take up abolition of Jagir lands completely by amending the law on Record of Rights (RoR).
Though these lands were already abolished, registrations against them continued. Therefore, amendments to law on RoR was required, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao told an official meeting.
Amendment to certain laws as this and enacting new ones were among certain suggestions made by Mr. Rao at the meeting which decided to enact a tough legislation to check supply of spurious seed, gambling, fake certificates, documents and currency. The Cabinet will discuss an Ordinance on the proposed legislations, a release said later.
Mr. Rao stressed on making the Act on preventive detention tougher with certain amendments. It was required because the supply of spurious seed and fertilizers continued unabated though some dealers were arrested and lodged in jail under the Act. The law should be a deterrent to those who played with the lives of public by selling adulterated food items.
In addition to amendments to PD Act, he wanted a special law to prevent adulteration. The Seed Act should also be enacted afresh. A task force should be set up to identify dealers who tinkered with seed and fertilizer. Mr. Rao asked officials to examine how the present laws on checking fake certificates, documents and currency worked. He insisted on a new law to deal with gambling firmly. Though clubs where cards were played had been closed, people continued to play online.
As soon as the Ordinance was issued, the task force should start its work straight away. Another release said Mr. Rao ordered despatch of official teams to all 31 districts to know first hand government initiatives in agriculture. They should talk to Collectors on the progress of survey about agricultural lands and farmers.
