Land row: SCB members differ with Collector

June 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Elected members of Secunderabad Cantonment Board did not agree to demands of Hyderabad Collector to revoke building permissions given on disputed land, during a special board meeting on Monday.

The meeting was convened after Collector K. Nirmala wrote to SCB CEO Sujatha Gupta last week, asking revocation of building permits given on land with GLR survey number 243. The letter was written by the Collector after an enquiry by district administration found the land belongs to the State government, but Trimulgherry Tehsildar had stated in a letter it was private land.

The SCB sanctioned building permits last year after receiving the Tehsildar’s letter.

During Monday’s meeting, elected members claimed that there is no basis of revoking permissions as they were sanctioned at the behest of the court. Also, some matters pertaining to disputed land were yet to be decided by the court and the SCB thus has to maintain status quo.

The elected members also rejected suggestion of the Collector that no-objection certificates have to be sought directly from the Collector’s office.

“There is no requirement for us in the Cantonment Act to secure an NOC from the district administration. In the past, it was a convention rather than a requirement by the law. We demanded that the practise be abandoned,” ward member 6, Pandu Yadav said.

SCB CEO Sujatha Gupta could not be reached for comment to determine the final resolutions of the meeting.
