The State government has decided to sanction funds and land for the construction of exclusive buildings for different sub-castes in the backward classes in and around the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

These complexes are being planned as centres of excellence for cultural, social, educational and other activities of different communities. The government had identified lands in Kokapet, Ghatkesar, Medipally, Medchal, Abdullapurmet, Injapur and other areas for construction of these complexes and necessary funds had also been earmarked for them, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said.

The Chief Minister spoke while examining requests from different communities for allotment of lands and funds for construction of their representative buildings, to be named ‘Atma Gaurava Bhavans’, with Ministers and senior officials on Friday.

The Chief Minister said though BCs comprise a majority of population in the State, they remained backward socially, educationally and financially. The government had therefore planned to construct the bhavans that would go a long way in ensuring all-round development of these communities.

In addition to their utility function halls, these complexes would be the focal points for educational and cultural activities. In addition to the BCs, buildings would also be constructed for Budaga Jangam community listed under the Scheduled Castes and Yerukala community of the Scheduled Tribes. The government had planned to construct a complex for 36 castes, nomadic in nature, over an area of 10 acres with an estimated ₹10 crore.

The Chief Minister said the decision was first-of-its kind in the country and these buildings would become role models in promoting communal harmony as well as social consciousness. The government had already allotted lands for some castes and it was proposed to allot five-acre land and ₹5 crore for construction of complex for Munnurukapu community, three acres and ₹3 crore for Dudekula, two acres and ₹2 crore each for Gangaputra and Viswakarma communities in addition to similar allocation to other castes.

He wanted the officials concerned and Ministers to take steps to start construction of these buildings at the earliest.
