Such is the force of water cascading down a 40 metre drop that it silences the cacophony of the large number of visitors to this picturesque place in the forest of Neredigonda mandal of Adilabad district.
Kuntala Waterfalls has come alive following good rains in the last few days and has started attracting nature lovers from across the State, mostly from Hyderabad.
The sight and sound of gushing water amidst a rejuvenated greenery is the perfect setting which attracts nature lovers. Flow of water in both the right and left falls is strong but visitors can only access the left fall as it is dangerous to reach the right fall.
Safe and sound
The Forest Department has made it more secure this season in the wake of the many deaths due to drowning in the previous seasons. As part of this it has posted life guards and security personnel to prevent visitors from venturing towards dangerous spots in the waterfall.
Further, a plan to develop the place as a tourism centre, rather than leave it as a picnic spot, is underway and it will be grounded sometime next year.
In May last, Head of Forest Force in Telangana P.K. Jha and Tourism Secretary Burra Venkatesham had visited the place to make an assessment of facilities to be developed. Two suspension bridges are likely to come up at the place which will give visitors a view of the falls from a vantage position. Facilities like parking, canteen, eateries, rest rooms, and eco-tourism cottages a few kilometres away too are mooted.
The authorities will assess the full flood discharge at Kuntala in order to design suitable plans this season. They had made their calculations for the dry season when the two top officials had visited the place.
Mehtab Khan, a visitor from Nizamabad town, told The Hindu t hat better facilities will attract more and repeat visitors as there are few places in the State that are so beautiful.
