Kind gesture: Landlord waives RTC bus conductor’s rent


He took decision seeing the conductor’s monetary state

In a kind gesture, a house owner and retired government employee waived off the rent of an RTC bus conductor till the end of the impasse.

Seelam Shankar, a retired deputy engineer (DE) of the Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar (MCK) and a resident of Subhashnagar locality in the town, waived off the ₹4,000 per month rent of Anand, his tenant for the last seven years.

Anand lives at the retired official’s house with his wife and three children.

Mr. Shankar’s decision brought some cheer on the conductor’s face and also won accolades on social media.

Talking to The Hindu on Friday, Mr. Shankar said that he took the call seeing the economic condition of the RTC conductor, who could not celebrate Dasara and Diwali with his family. Besides, some members of his family were suffering from dengue fever, he said.

He also appealed to other house owners to provide some relief to the striking RTC employees by waiving off rents during the strike period.

Meanwhile, the RTC strike in the State entered the 28th day on Friday. The Opposition parties flayed the TRS government for its “adamant attitude” in resolving the crisis.
