Bharatiya Janata Party State president K. Laxman on Wednesday said that as a part of garnering support for his Federal Front Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is meeting political leaders who have been close to the Congress party.
Mr. Laxman was interacting with media persons at the State BJP headquarters here on Wednesday.
Terming the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) as a B-Team of the Congress, Mr. Laxman said that Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, who met the Chief Minister on Wednesday, had entered into an alliance with the Congress party nearly a year ago to contest the Uttar Pradesh elections.
“Rahul Gandhi was the pillion rider on the Samajwadi Party’s cycle,” the State BJP president said.
Land identification
The BJP State Chief said that the Telangana government is yet to finalise land for the purpose of the proposed Tribal University. The Centre can step in only after this is done.
He also said that the Centre is following Supreme Court guidelines while dealing with the Bison Polo Ground land parcel. “The guidelines say that no playground or park should be used for construction. Polo, it is a sport, a game,” he said.
‘People vexed’
Much like in the minority concentrated constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, Mr. Laxman said that the party intends to give the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) a tough fight in the 2019 General Elections.
Indicating that bridges have been built between the party and the people there, he said that for the first time in 20 years, the BJP has a full-fledged office in the Old City.
“The people of the Old City are vexed with the dominance and violence of the MIM,” he said and added that incidents of marriages poor young women from the city to nationals of Arab countries have not been controlled.
Game changer
Mr. Laxman was confident that the BJP would come to power in Karnataka where polling is scheduled to be held on May 12. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s campaigning in that State has been a game changer, he said.
The BJP will contest the 2019 general elections on its own, much like the way it did in Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.
