Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has given his approval for taking up the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation project with an estimated cost of Rs. 16,000 crore.

The project will have the potential to irrigate about 10 lakh acres in Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda and Ranga Reddy districts including stabilising about 3 lakh acres ayacut irrigated under minor irrigation tanks. The project is aimed at addressing the fluoride problem in some areas of Nalgonda district and migration of labour from Mahabubnagar district by irrigating lands.

Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao said on Monday that the government had already accorded the task of preparing a detailed project report to an agency and the project would be given administrative sanction once the DPR was received. Further, the Chief Minister approved the proposal to construct two reservoirs with the storage capacity of 35 tmcft together in Medak district as part of Pranahita-Chevella project.
