Japanese motorcycle major Kawasaki, that has been in India for the past four decades, on Wednesday announced that it plans to roll out five models of high-end motorbikes, including two in the current fiscal.

Deputy Managing Director of India Kawasaki Motors (IKML), Shigeta Nishikawa said that while he could not proffer too many details at this point of time, he could not deny the information too. “We are constantly striving to add to our strong portfolio of motorcycles - the usual city road bikes under 250 cc that is our mainstay, while catering to the avid bike lovers who opt for cruisers for their long drives on holiday,” he said.

Through Bajaj Auto, where IKML has an assembly line each for the engine and for frame assembly of the high-end bikes, the Pune factory had the capacity to roll out about 5,000 units a year, he said.

Mr. Nishikawa was here on Wednesday to open IKML's new dealership, Sri Vinayaka Bajaj, in the City of Pearls. The other cities where it is present include Pune, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai and Surat. Six different models of high-end bikes were on display at the showroom starting from the Kawasaki Z 800 at a price point of Rs. 7.6 lakh (ex-showroom) to the Ninja H 2 that comes at a fancy Rs. 29 lakh.

Managing Director of Sri Vinayaka Bajaj, K.V. Babu Reddy said the location of the new dealership, specially for high-end bikes, at Kacheguda was strategic as apart from upmarket Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills and Secunderabad, there was a considerable spurt in expression of interest from the outlying areas of the overall Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, including the Old City.
