The dry run of the second of seven pumps, each with 139 mw capacity, in the pumping station as part of eighth package of Kaleshwaram project at Laxmipur in Karimnagar district was conducted on Saturday night.
According to the officials of Irrigation Department, Advisor to State Government on lift irrigation projects K. Penta Reddy, engineers of the work agency, Irrigation Department, TS-Transco and BHEL were present when the dry run was taken up. The motor of the pump attained its specified RPM (revolutions per minute) of 214 in 10 minutes as part of the speed run test.
Dry run of the first pump of the pump house was conducted on July 20 in the presence of Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao. He expressed satisfaction over the success of dry run of the second pump in the eighth package pumping station.
The pumping station in the eighth package of Kaleshwaram projects holds key along with the pumping station in the sixth package and transmission of water through the tunnel in the seventh package for lifting of water from Yellampally barrage to the Sriramsagar Flood Flow Canal to take the Godavari water to Mid Manair reservoir.
Although it was planned to commission the pump house with two pumps initially, the plans were changed to enable completion of work on all the five pumps located on one side in the eighth package pumping station since carrying out work on others by running two pumps is not possible. The remaining two pumps are located on the other side.
Pumps in the pumping station of the sixth package, which also has seven pumps with the capacity of 124 mw each, are yet to reach the dry run stage. Besides, a bottleneck in one of the twin tunnels in the seventh package is also yet to be overcome, according to the project officials.
