A teenaged girl and her friend sustained minor burn injuries after her jilted lover threw toilet cleaning acid on their faces in Padmavathi Colony under Hayathnagar police station limits on Wednesday.
The accused Cheruku Shankar Goud (23), a car driver, was arrested and sent to judicial remand.
Police said both the girls escaped with minor injuries as the liquid was not concentrate.
Hayathnagar inspector K. Satish said the incident took place around 9.30 p.m. when the girl along with her mother and a friend was on her way to a nearby grocery store in the area.
“The accused Goud intercepted them and started an argument with the girl as she was avoiding him and refused to take his phone calls,” Mr. Satish said.
Soon, the argument turned violent and Goud opened the bottle containing the toilet cleaner and poured on the girl and her friend, he said.
Police suspect they were in a relationship for the past two years.
