The vast hangars of Hitex Exhibition Centre echoed to the squawk of macaws, mewing of cats and the bark of dogs as a three-day pet care and pets exhibition opened in the city on Friday. Pet owners, sellers and prospective pet owners trooped in to see the offerings at the show pitched as one of the largest in the country. From the tiny sugar glider marsupial native to Australia in a cage to frisky tri-coloured squirrel native to Amazon forest doing cartwheels to large German Shepherds, the pet show is a vast menagerie. The line-up of events at Petex India includes dog shows, dog grooming shows and cat shows. A number of judges would evaluate competitive obedience events as well as grooming competitions over the next two days.
According to the organisers, petcare products is a sunrise industry growing at a pace of 13.9% annually and is expected to top ₹200 crore by next year.
The pet care exhibition also includes an educational seminar on dog grooming on Saturday. While entry for children is free, it is ₹150 for adults.
