Responding to the incident of hair cutting for girl students at the Mini Gurukulam located in the district headquarters, Collector K. Dharma Reddy appointed District BC Welfare Officer K Sudhakar as inquiry officer and asked him to conduct a probe and submit a report.

The inquiry includes under what circumstances the hair cut was performed on the students and while doing so, was any permission taken from the parents and senior officials.

According to sources, the principal K. Aruna took permission from the regional coordinator Satyanarayana before performing ‘baby hair cut’ on girl students which was objected to by the parents. Among many communities, more particularly tribals, hair cut for girls is frowned upon . Hair is cut or head is tonsured only to fulfil a vow to a god or goddess. Many of the parents said their feelings were hurt over the incident. However, the principal has explained that lack of water at the Gurukulam and infestation of lice and boils forced them to take the decision in view of the health of the students. Primary investigation revealed that the principal did not take permission from parents in this regard. “We are yet to receive the enquiry report and once received we will take suitable action,” Mr. Dharma Reddy told The Hindu .
