Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday said it was proposing to order for an inquiry into the activities of Hyderabad Cricket Association over allegations of financial irregularities.

A division bench of the High Court comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice K. Vijaya Lakshmi said that it was yet to be decided if a forensic audit of the HCA accounts should be undertaken or probe by CBI should be ordered.

The division bench observed this while hearing a public interest litigation petition seeking cleansing of Telangana’s cricket body and the manner it was carrying out its work. The bench said the Anti-Corruption Unit of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Committee of Administrators faulted the present HCA president G. Vivek’s running of the cricket body.

HCA secretary Sesh Narayan alleged that that the T20 Telangana Cricket tournament’s estimated value was ₹40 crore. This included its broadcast rights and cost of conducting the tournament. But these rights were given to Vivek’s company for ₹40 lakh, it was charged.

The bench sought observations of all the parties connected to the case as to the nature of the probe to be ordered and adjourned the case.

While hearing another PIL petition related to HCA, the division bench directed the petitioner to pay ₹25,000 costs to the legal services authority expressing doubt that it was filed at the behest of someone from the HCA. The petition was filed by G. Chittaranjan Kumar, son of MLA G. Sayanna.
