Redwood City, California-headquartered enterprise cloud data management firm Informatica on Wednesday inaugurated a new research and development (R&D) centre in the city.

An integral part of the company’s global R&D network, the new 23,000 sq. ft. facility at Gachibowli that has been established with over $2 million investment can seat 160 people.

The company has begun relocating around 150 employees from the existing facilities in Hyderabad to the new centre and looking to take up more space. It has also planned to double the headcount in the city to 300 over the next two years, said Amit Walia, president of products and marketing.

Informatica, which started operations in India 16 years ago, has over 1,700 employees in the country in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai. The company is setting 20% employees’ growth every year, he said in a media interaction ahead of the inauguration of the facility by Industries and IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan.

“With almost half of our global employees located at the three facilities in India, expansion is inevitable. Hyderabad is driving some of the most significant innovations that have allowed Informatica to make a global impact,” he said. Work in the Cloud, AI and ML space is a focus for the company, he added.

A release from the company said the Hyderabad facility is an innovation hub focused on the continuous evolution of the Informatica Intelligent Data Platform. Leveraging AI and machine learning across the company’s entire product architecture via its CLAIRE engine, the Hyderabad location would further develop the Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog (EDC) and strategic cloud offerings.

Data security products and enterprise data catalogue are key Informatica products being developed out of the Hyderabad office. Globally, Informatica has employed over 4,200 people and has more than $1 billion in revenue.

Mr. Walia, who addressed the media with Krishna Narasimhan, India Managing Director, said India was an important market for the company and it counted some of the leading companies, including oil major Indian Oil Corporation, among the clients in the country.
