January 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - Hyderabad:

A meeting of trade and industry bodies, bulk of whose members are MSME units, with policy makers of the Telangana government on Tuesday had Energy and Industries Ministers assuring discussions soon on issues of power supply, property tax and water tariff.

Addressing the programme organised by Telangana Industrialists’ Welfare Federation at FTAPCCI auditorium here, Energy Minister C. Laxma Reddy said in 10 days, a meeting will be convened to elicit suggestions from industry associations. The objective is to seek inputs on how best to manage power shortage during the ensuing summer, particularly by drawing up a schedule and thereby avoiding unplanned shutdowns.

This might well be the last summer when industries would be required to suffer power cuts, he said, as some of the efforts initiated by Chief Minister were expected to yield fruit soon. Underscoring the contribution of MSMEs to economy, Industries Minister Jupally Krishna Rao assured the gathering of a meeting soon. The Industries Department, he said, was in favour of frequent interactions with trade and industry bodies.

Vice-Chairman of the Planning Board S. Niranjan Reddy said industrial units located within city limits should consider relocating to the outskirts.

As a first step, they should start scouting for land. Being in possession of land would help them be ready when the need to shift arises.

FTAPCCI president Shiv Kumar Rungta and Telangana Industrialists’ Welfare Federation president K. Sudhir Reddy were among MSME leaders who spoke on the problems faced by the entrepreneurs.

Telangana Association for Pharma and Chemical Industries general secretary N.V. Narender said 700 proposals have come for setting up units at the proposed Pharma City in Ranga Reddy district. The State government, he added, should consider allotting land at the rate of Rs. 5 lakh per acre.
