Unlike several other countries, the Estonia government insists on foreign students joining the companies in their country so as to not to lose talent, and no wonder the number of Indian students are increasing by the day in Estonia.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia to India, Riho Kruuv, said at a press conference here on Friday that Estonia was an innovative digital society that offered excellent opportunities for study at world-class universities at affordable prices. The one who introduced Skype technology to the world, Estonia is also one of the most developed digital societies across the globe.

Estonia’s higher education focuses on strong links with industry to make students gain practical experience, said Payal Rajpal, Ambassador for Study Estonia, adding that the country encourages Indian students to study specialised courses like cyber security, IT, robotics among others.

The USP is the low fee and the country offers international students a high probability of in-country employment after graduation as they are granted nine-months of stay back option after their course completion to search for a job. The course fee ranges from €1,500 to €6,000 a year, while students with good academic track record get scholarships.

Working hours

Mr. Kruuv said the country offers 300 seats for international students in each of the 186 courses offered in eight universities. Being a European country, its degrees are widely accepted. More importantly, there is no limit of work hours for international students during the courses as long as the academic schedule is not disrupted. They do not need work permit as well.

Mr. Kruuv said they are looking for bright students to take advantage of the vibrant start-up eco-system in Estonia.

Students must have 50% marks in their previous course along with 5.5 IELTS score as proof of English language knowledge.
