Round two on Monday of the implosion of an illegally-constructed five-storeyed building in Sunnam Cheruvu saw two floors still remaining, even as officials of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) claimed it to be a success.
On May 8, officials could bring down only one floor, while Monday saw two more floors being brought down with the help of experts from the Army. While officials claimed it to be a successful operation, pictures showed two floors of the building in SIET Colony of Guttala Begumpet still remaining.
An official press release said the expertise of Army officials and structural engineers from the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University were leveraged for the purpose of bringing the building down.
Monday’s operation was coordinated and planned by officials of the Town Planning department of the GHMC with the help of the police who ensured that the surrounding area was evacuated.
Three injured
However, a man and two women who were in the area sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital.
The release said the government was serious about removing illegal constructions in tune with its objective of showcasing the City of Pearls as a global city.
The operation took place at 2.35 p.m. on Monday with 17.25 kg of explosives and 169 detonators being used for the demolition exercise. GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy said there was no damage to a neighbouring building which is located just a metre away.
He also said that a 33 KV main power line was in line during the exercise.
