IIT-JEE: A.P. boy bags all-India first rank

State pockets 25 per cent of the seats

Making history, the State bagged the first rank in the IIT-JEE for the second consecutive year and the students reaped a rich harvest in the overall performance pocketing nearly 25 per cent of the seats.

Immadi Prudhvi Tej, a student of Sri Chaitanya, scored the all India first rank, while Narayana students V. Shaimak Reddy and Burle Sai Kiran took the third and fourth ranks respectively. The sixth rank was bagged by Kunal Chawla of Narayana College while Sri Chaitanya students, T. Bhargava Reddy and J. Varun, secured the 8{+t}{+h} and 9{+t}{+h} ranks respectively. It was a sweep in other categories too with Rama Krishna Banot and J. Varun scoring first rank in ST and OBC categories respectively at the all India level. About 1,490 girls qualified this year.

‘For the parents'

In the open category, 15 students each from Narayana group and Sri Chaitanya group figured in the top 100 ranks taking the total to 30 ranks at the All India level. “We dedicate the achievement to the parents who had faith in us and the special programmes designed for the test,” said B.S. Rao, Chairman of Sri Chaitanya and P. Narayana, Chairman of Narayana group, speaking to reporters. The fourth ranker, Sai Kiran, is the son of Joint Transport Commissioner, B. Venkateshwarlu. More than 100 students of IIT Ramaiah Academy secured seat-getting ranks this year.

Students from Bhashyam group too bagged several ranks. Y. Vamsidhar (11{+t}{+h}), Srinivasa Sainath (18{+t}{+h}), and Tarun Raj (19{+t}{+h}) secured ranks in different categories, according to Bhashyam Ramakrishna, Director. About 20 candidates from FIITJEE Hyderabad too secured seat-getting ranks. Thirty nine students from Delta Academy for IIT-JEE secured seat-getting ranks in different categories with the best one being 50{+t}{+h} rank secured by B. Vivek.

This year, 62,880 students from IIT-Madras zone appeared for the test of which 3,126 were declared qualified. According to initial estimates, nearly 2,400 candidates account from Andhra Pradesh. About 800 students of Narayana qualified from the State of which 560 are from open category.
