Dejected over being ‘ignored’ by her friend, a 21-year-old woman committed suicide by consuming a poisonous liquid in Himayatnagar on Saturday evening.

The victim identified as Sridevi was a degree student who stayed at a private hostel in the area. She died while undergoing treatment at a corporate hospital in Jubilee Hills.

“She was a resident of Filmnagar but, for the last couple of years, was staying at a working women’s hostel. There she befriended Shivani (name changed), a native of Sircilla town,” Narayanaguda police said.

The two became close friends soon, police said.

For the past six months, Shivani was not in touch with her. On Friday afternoon, she came to Hyderabad to write her examination.

“Sridevi met her friend near the examination centre in Hyderguda, where they discussed about their relationship. Soon, a heated argument ensued between the two, following which, Shivani approached the police to lodge a complaint against Sridevi,” sub-inspector G. Vinod Kumar said.

Counselling of no help

Based on the complaint, both of them were counselled and later let off by the police. However, the counselling did not help Sridevi much.

She again went to the examination centre to meet Shivani with their common friend Sai Kumar, but even that did not work.

“Sridevi returned to the hostel and resorted to the extreme step. She was rushed to the nearby corporate hospital, from where her family members shifted her to another corporate hospital in Jubilee Hills, where she succumbed while undergoing treatment,” the investigator said.
