IT firms being roped in to provide shuttle services: MD

Hyderabad Metro Rail has recorded a high of 2.60 lakh passengers on Wednesday, with 21,000 more passengers travelling for the IPL match at Uppal stadium whereas the average daily passenger travel is crossing the 2.30 lakh mark, according to Managing Director N.V.S. Reddy.

Daily about 4,000 more passengers are clambering onto the metro rail trains, currently running from L.B. Nagar to Miyapur of Corridor 1 and Nagole to HiTec City of Corridor 2. L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad has also begun running free shuttle services from Durgamcheruvu station covering financial district, Gachibowli and environs with 15 minutes frequency.

The MD said on Thursday that initially the L&TMRH shuttle service will be free and pointed out that about 12 IT firms have been running shuttle services from HiTec City and Durgamcheru stations. He expects more firms to follow suit.

‘Taruni’ fair

The grand ‘Taruni’ women’s fair would be opened on Saturday evening at the two-acre site beneath Madhuranagar station near Ameerpet.

There will be 150 shops selling a wide variety of goods useful predominantly for women and children including clothes, healthy foods and others, said Mr. Reddy.

Women self-help groups of Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA) have been allotted substantial number of shops. Children’s play area with merry-go-arounds et al are getting ready with another highlight going to be the village like ambience with bullock carts, palm trees, pottery making, water well and the likes being created.

Culture secretary M. Harikrishna said around 1,500 artistes would be performing at the venue showcasing traditional Telangana and Indian folk arts like Oggu Katha, Burrakatha, Harikatha and dances daily at 6.30 p.m. across the 60 days when the fair will be open from 5.30 p.m. to 10.30 p.m.

Training programmes in paintings, skill development and free 15-day yoga classes would be conducted from April 26 onwards at 6 a.m.. Interested persons can contact: 23388588/23388587 before April 24. Entry is free.
