Hyderabad Design Week had quite a few takeaways

Designers from across the country soaked up knowledge, networked and shared ideas as some of the best-known designers landed in the city for the Hyderabad Design Week.

Tim Kobe, who first designed the iconic Apple Store that transformed the electronic retailing from sales to developing relationships, said there was a gamble involved in the design. Sharing what he called eight principles, Mr. Kobe showed off the first generation iPhone as well the launch of iPods.

“People don’t remember the specs and memory of the device, but remember what it does. Design is about experience what people do with interaction,” he said.

Shiva Nallaperumal shared his work and experiences with fonts and typography to explain his philosophy of design. “Why should we learn from others,” he said, labelling it as a propaganda of design. Showing a wall plastered with colourful posters stuck in no particular order, Mr. Nallaperumal showed how it inspired him to do something very local and equally colourful.

Other designers including some urban design planners and thinkers shared their ideas and success stories. Earlier, inaugurating the day’s proceedings, Jayesh Ranjan, IT Secretary, Telangana Government, said the design conference was a milestone.

“This is just a beginning. I hope to see many more conferences and creative interactions in the city,” said Mr. Ranjan.

A number of installations have been set up at the venue, some of which showcase Hyderabad and its design legacy.
